KAILUA, HI - Windward O'ahu did not experience significant damage from Hurricane Lane, which weakened to a Tropical Storm then a Tropical Depression before veering away from the island yesterday. O'ahu remains under a flash flood watch until 6pm HST today.

Kailua business owners and residents who prepared yesterday for potential hurricane damage repeatedly said, "Better safe than sorry," as they boarded up windows, placed sand bags at entryways, and stocked up on emergency supplies. Here's a snapshot of how some Kailua businesses and homes were prepared yesterday afternoon, when Lane was a Category 2 hurricane approaching the island.
